Academic activist and motivational speaker. Expertise includes access to higher education for Latinos and the pathways from community college to university. Irene is Alumni of University at Santa Cruz (B.S.) and the University of Washington (M.A. & Ph.D).
Irene advocates for underserved populations in higher education and in society at large for immigrant and workers rights. She has provided hundreds of workshops and served as a panel and keynote speaker at Community, Education, and Humanities based conferences and events. Irene is also a poet/writer, danzante (Aztec/Mexica) and involved in Son Jarocho community. Irene is a teacher of high school Ethnic Studies in Southern California, USA.
